So I've been out cold for a couple of weeks. The entire last week I was in bed with a fever - and the week before that it was approaching and I was really tired and drowsy. This week I'm much better - only, I sound like a sealion because I cough all the time...
While I was ill I got to read a lot of the books I've had lying around... A few bad ones and then there was "Watership Down" by Richard Adams... My, I just loved that book!!! When I turned the last page, I was almost about to start again from page one. I know it's one of those books you can analyze and see political and sociological "problems" and so on, but I like to read it and pretend it's merely a book about rabbits. It's a wonderful story - and I think making it anything else than about the characters would spoil the reading. So here's a suggestion for you: Should you ever read this book, the first time read it for the characters and then for the story. Then you can read it again and analyze it.
Now I'm working my way through a book called "Red Azalea" which is written by Anchee Min. It's an autobiography about her life - right now I'm at th point where she's in a Maoistic camp. I'm not sure I like the book, but it's fascinating to read about the things people are willing to do for a belief - what a whole society is willing to do... Even if the people are dying for insignificant things. I can't understand how a craze like that can grab you, how you can be so devoted and blind. But perhaps it's because I'm not very politically minded.
Speaking of politics, while writing this I'm watching a biography program about Bush and Kerry. I've actually begun to care a bit about the subject - to my surprise, who would have thought?! The program is actually very interesting.
Well, I'll better get to bed soon. My neuroscience book awaits me tomorrow. I'm at the chapter dealing with "voluntary movement". The one after that being "control of gaze". I like to read about vision and touch the most, posture and walking and such don't really manage to keep my interest.
As I said... I'd better get to bed... Sweet dreams...
